Teewe 2 : Making Indian TV Smart
In July 2013, Google launched Google
Chromecast in US. It is a digital media player, it promised to turn your TV
into a smart TV, all you need is a HDMI port and internet connection. The
device will stream from your smartphone, tablet or any device running Chrome. By the end of year 2014, Chromecast was launched in India at INR 2,999/-
through Snapdeal.
But in between the release of Google’s device and launch in India there came a indigenously developed device rivalling Chromecast in its services. The device was called Teewe, which was developed by Indian hardware start-up Mango Man Consumer Electronics. Teewe at the time of launch of was priced at INR 2,399/- with a pre-order price of INR 1,999/-. Price wise this was steal deal and after success of Teewe the guys at Mango Man Consumer Electronics are back with improved ‘Teewe 2’.

For streaming content from your PC to
Google’s Chromecast you need to install and apps like Plex. Well, this is where
Teewe 2 has leaped ahead and you don’t need any other app for playing those
videos stored on your laptops, pc or smartphones. Teewe 2 is available
exclusively through Amazon India. Alternatively you can order the device from
Teewe India’s site. Along with the device you will be getting extra benefits
which include 60GB data for Airtel broadband, two months of premium
subscription from Eros Now which has so much content for you to enjoy. In addition, you also will get Lifetime Customer Support from Teewe 2.
Teewe 2 is a cute looking device and is
as per CEO of Mango Man the device is 30% smaller than first generation Teewe. Teewe
2 is a rectangular in shape with Teewe logo carved beautifully on one side. Teewe
2 will be plugged into HDMI port of your TV, for powering the device there is
micro-USB port. If the TV you have consists of USB port Teewe 2 can be
connected to USB port for power, otherwise there is a power adapter included
into Teewe 2 along with USB cable, also there is HDMI extender into the
packaging of device.
Setting up Teewe 2 is pretty simple and
easy. You just need a Teewe 2 device, Wi-Fi network and a smartphone or a
tablet. For setting up, connect Teewe 2 device to your TV and power it. Download
the Teewe app on your smartphone or tablet and just follow the instructions.
The app is available for all three major OS platforms: iOS, Android and Windows
Phone. Teewe 2 can be set up on PC also. Home page of the app there are
contents form YouTube for your consumption. When you scroll down on home page
you’ll be able to see content from your device. You can either play from videos
from YouTube by tapping on your phone or you can send videos, music or
photographs to Teewe 2 from your device.
Remember one thing your Teewe 2 device
and smartphone need to be same Wi-Fi network for sending content from your
device, this feature will work even there is no working internet. Teewe 2 will
bring up content from YouTube for local movies, TV shows or songs. As per the company
they are working on tie-ups with more content providers in India for movies and
songs. Eros Now service is expected to be launched by July. With Teewe 2 you
can connect more than one device to the same dongle, that means you can start
playing video from your tablet and then start playing slideshow of your photos
from phone. There is one more feature of Teewe 2 which I think is pretty nice,
with Teewe app installed on your laptop which has movies stored, you can watch
those movies on your mobile also.
Coming on to hardware details of Teewe
2, the device is ARM based dual-core Cortex-A9 clocked at 1.6GHz, along with
1GB of RAM with support for 802.11b/g/n. Some of you may think the
configuration of device is nothing compared to modern day phones, but hold that
thought as these specifications are good enough for the requirements of device.
Working of device is pretty fast, you just need a fast internet connection for
playing content online. Even when you are playing local videos from your phone,
there is no loss of time in playing content.
When I first came to know about Teewe I
was sceptical about it as its competition Chromecast was already a heavyweight
with huge backing up from search giant Google. But the device hold its ground
and punched above it and became India’s favourite streaming stick. And that is
not all, Teewe is back with new improved of itself Teewe 2, more content,
better hardware and looks, better support and a promise to improve its viewers TV
watching experience.
