WhatsApp Web Service
Back in January this year, WhatsApp, the
chat client released web version of its service. Most of you would be knowing
about WhatsApp, but for those of you who are not aware I’ll just go into a brief
summary about WhatsApp before I go into details for WhatsApp Web service.
WhatsApp is an instant chat messenger
for smartphones. It was released for the first time on iOS in 2009 and slowly
it became a truly cross platform service with support for iOS, Android, Windows
Phone, BB OS, BB10, Nokia Symbian, and Samsung Tizen. In April 2015, WhatsApp
had 800 million active users. Many chat clients have come to market based on
WhatsApp. Last year WhatsApp was purchased by Facebook for approx. US$22
billion.
Now onto the topic, WhatsApp released a
web client for Google Chrome, which is basically an extension of your phone. The web client will mirror conversations and messages of WhatsApp of your phone
onto browser. Your messages and all chats will still be on your phone.
Once you
see the QR code, open the WhatsApp app on your smartphone and scan the code and
voila you are good to go. Well, there is one pre-requisite, you have to have the latest version of WhatsApp on your smartphone.
Due to restrictions of
Apple this functionality will not work at present for iOS and iPhone users. But we can hope this too
will come for iOS and iPhone in near future.
